Today I'm bringing you an Aperol cocktail recipe that has ruled many summers, caused a bit of controversy, and ruled Instagram for the last few years: the Aperol Spritz.
Popular for its low-alcohol content and easy drinkability - this classic aperol cocktail is just as delicious as it is easy to make. Plus, it only requires a few ingredients - all of which are easy to keep on hand for when the mood strikes.
Classic Aperol Spritz Ingredients
- Prosecco
- Aperol
- Sparkling Water
- Orange slice for garnish
A short ingredient list and light, refreshing taste isn't the only thing this drink has going for it: it's also incredibly easy to make. No weird bar tools, no squeezing of fresh juice or fancy garnishes, you just do the following:
How to make an Aperol Spritz
- Prepare. Fill a large wine glass halfway with ice
- Base Bubbles. Pour in 3 ounces of prosecco or your favorite sparkling wine
- Booze it up. Stir in 2 ounces Aperol
- Add More Bubbles. Top with 1 ounce ( or more! ) of sparkling water and serve with an orange slice!
Another great thing about it is that you don't reallllly have to follow an Aperol Spritz Recipe. You can sorta wing it - adding more prosecco, soda water, or even Aperol as you please.
You can even mix it up and use another great Italian aperitivo for a more crisp version: Campari. ( Although maybe that would be a Campari Spritz? )
Which brings me to another great aspect of this low alcohol cocktail, if you do follow my recipe to a "T":
Aperol Spritz Calories
There are only 158 calories in this refreshing drink! Sure, it's not as low as some ( champagne rings in right around 100 calories a glass, but it's also an ounce smaller per serving), but not nearly as bad as some of my other summer favorites, like sangria or margaritas.
Aperol is one of my favorite things behind the bar to play with. If you're finding out that you love it too, you might like these:
