Seriously, you need to make this Nutella Baked Brie this year.
I am not a lover of chocolate [ instantly loses half of all readers]. I know. Some people think I'm crazy, but I just find that chocolate is often used in place of creativity in recipes. Making dessert? DRENCH IT IN CHOCOLATE!
Not for me.
I prefer fruit desserts, almond cakes, oatmeal cookies … really anything without chocolate. So I surprised even myself when recently I woke up in the middle of the night, sat bolt upright in bed, and thought, "Nutella Baked Brie".
To be fair, Nutella ( Chocolate Hazelnut Spread, if you are not familiar) is not just chocolate. It has the unique flavor of hazelnuts blended in, cutting the overly "chocolate-y" taste that chocolate has. That's right: I find chocolate too chocolatey.
So, I don't like chocolate. And I don't usually cook with chocolate. And I don't usually eat things with chocolate. But I had this idea. This middle-of-the-night Nutella slathered ooey-gooey baked brie idea.
However good I thought it was going to be, it was better... WAY better. Like, "had to take it to work the next day because I could not have it in the house" better. Questioning if I really don't like chocolate better.
Oh and easy. Did I mention it was easy? You need to make this brie.

Nutella Baked Brie
Ingredients
- 1 Small Wheel Brie approx 7 ounces
- 1 Sheet Frozen Puff Pastry left out on the counter to defrost for 45 minutes
- ½ Cup Nutella
- 2 Tablespoons Sliced Almonds optional
- 1 Egg beaten ( for egg wash, optional )
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
- Slather the Nutella onto the wheel of brie ( Under no circumstances are you to remove the rind! Even if you don't like the rind normally, you will not taste it when baked and it is what holds the cheese together while baking!) Top the Nutella with half of the sliced almonds, pressing them into the spread.
- Holding the brie over the puff pastry, flip the brie upside down ( Nutella-side down ) and place it on the puff pastry.
- Fold all of the edges of the puff pastry up around the brie, covering the brie entirely.
- Flip the puff pastry wrapped brie over onto a foil-lined jellyroll pan, so all of the folded-up seams are on the bottom. Brush the puff pastry with the beaten egg to make it pretty and glossy.
- Bake at 400 for 25 minutes.
- Serve warm.
Notes
Optional: Top with a drizzle of melted Nutella and 2 Tablespoons of Sliced Almonds.
