I'll admit it: I'd never had a lobster roll until I got one from the Immortal Lobster. In fact, I hounded the woman who schedules the food trucks at my day job until she was able to get them to come out to the boondocks of our office, because I was dying to try a lobster roll, and I refuse to pay the exorbitant price of the ones at certain popular downtown restaurants.
Lo and behold, Immortal Lobster did come out to pay us a visit.
I couldn't decide between the two types of Lobster roll they offer, so I got a half of each ( Maine Lobster Roll and Connecticut Roll ), with a side of their Apple and Poppyseed Coleslaw.
The Maine Lobster roll is the Boss' favorite according to their website, and I thought it was really great ... until I tried the Connecticut Roll.
Sorry, Boss.
The Connecticut Roll is chunks of lobster ( like the Maine Roll), but instead of a light coating of mayo, it's poached in butter. My Southern Soul rejoices! I was concerned that it might be greasy, and let's be honest, this isn't exactly health food, but it was somehow ... light tasting. Even though I was full after finishing my two ½ rolls and the coleslaw, I could have easily crammed another ½ of a Connecticut Roll into my face just for the repeated sheer delight of eating the first one.
Oh yes! Let's not forget to talk about the coleslaw. Some of my coworkers complained that they weren't a fan, but I thought it was awesome. I loved the acidic bite of it -- which I think might have been exactly what my coworkers did not care for. Perhaps they were hoping for more of a classic Southern scooped-from-a-bin coleslaw? All I know is that the coleslaw at the Immortal Lobster is NOT scooped from a bin -- it tastes like real food, and is a great complement to the lobster rolls.
I recently heard they are now set up permanently downtown. We miss you, Immortal Lobster. Please come back.
TL;DR:
Best lobster rolls I've ever had. Served on a classic buttered, split-top bun. Get a roll with a side of fresh vinegary-tart coleslaw. The rolls are so good, that when I recently went to Boston and tried several lobster rolls at certain classic Lobster Roll institutions, I was disappointed in them.
Value:
Good. Portions are small but I've never been hungry after a meal there. People at my office complained about the price ( subject to the market price of lobster ), but it's the cheapest lobster in town, by far. Oh, and later, they complained that Immortal Lobster didn't come back more often. There's no pleasing some people.
Wait time:
Shorter than Average.
Staff:
Friendly. Seem like good people.

I've been wanting to try them for awhile--can't wait! ????
My Husband and I used to love getting Lobster Rolls from a place near our apartment in NYC and I so miss it since moving to Charleston! I'm glad you wrote about this truck because I hadn't heard about it before. We'll definitely have to check it out.
This makes me yearn for the days when I would travel to Boston for my former employer! I love lobster rolls and have been interested in trying the fare from this truck! Thanks for the write up! Food looks yummy!
