A perfectly festive drink for your next gathering: Cranberry Moscow Mules! This Christmas Cocktail is always a hit -- in fact, I love serving these Cranberry Mules all year long!
Moscow Mules are one of the easiest holiday party drinks to make. You can even scale up this recipe directly in the recipe card to make a pitcher of cranberry Moscow mules - perfect for a party!
Why does a Moscow Mule have to be in a copper cup?
Well, it doesn't have to be. But aren't they festive?! If you want to get scientific about it ( well, at least a little more scientific ), the original reason for mules being in copper cups is because the copper gets super frosty cold and helps the drink stay cold too! It also adds an extra chilly punch to your lips as you are drinking.
Is it safe to drink a Moscow Mule from a copper cup?
GREAT QUESTION. Anything with high-acidity placed into copper can cause the copper to leach out into the drink. However, many, many copper mules are now lined with Stainless Steel to protect both the mug from erosion and the liquid from copper.
If you take a close look at the pictures of my mugs, you can see that I do have stainless steel mugs from the silver lip on them. If you'd like to buy my mugs, please use this link and you'll be supporting my little blog at zero extra cost to you: Marianne's Moscow Mule Mugs
Can you substitute ginger ale for ginger beer in a Moscow Mule?
You can, but it won't have the same BITE, and I really like that bite the ginger beer gives.

Just made two for my husband and myself for the tired after Christmas Friday night Delicious. How do you make the cranberries to garnish?

I garnish them with my Grand Marnier Cranberries ( which I always seem to have floating around in the fridge anyway! ) Here's the link: http://basilandbubbly.com/grand-marnier-cranberries/ Enjoy!

I fell in love with Moscow Mules awhile back. I am definitely going to try cranberry juice in them the next time that I make them! Yum!

Haha yes I'm totally with you - $17 FOR A COCKTAIL?! insane right?! I don't know if I've even accepted that $10 is a fair price. Definitely better to just make your own moscow mules at home! Just curious what kind of copper mugs are those? I've been looking at buying some for my cousin for xmas.

I'm not sure where the mugs came from -- I borrowed them for a friend who received them as a gift. I have seen similar ones on amazon though. They look really similar to the Oggi Moscow Mule Mugs on Amazon though!

The classic Moscow Mules are fun, but sometimes I find them TOO ginger-y ( I know ,totally the point of it, but oh well ). The cranberry juice cuts that ginger flavor just a little, and balances it out.
